Timbaktu Collective | Rooted Rural Livelihoods & Community Strength

The Timbaktu Collective was formed with a long-term vision of rural communities living with dignity, peace, and self-reliance while nurturing life and local ecosystems. Working in the drought-prone regions of Ananthapuramu and Sri Sathya Sai districts in Andhra Pradesh, Timbaktu partners closely with rural families to strengthen livelihoods, social equity, and ecological stewardship.

Rather than implementing short-term interventions, Timbaktu focuses on building community-owned systems. Their work centres on collectivisation — enabling landless labourers, small and marginal farmers, artisans, women, youth, and vulnerable groups to organise, access resources, and take charge of their economic and social futures while preserving cultural and ecological heritage.

Key Areas of Work

Timbaktu Collective works across interconnected areas that support rural resilience:

• Promotion of farmer and artisan cooperatives
• Sustainable agriculture and rural livelihoods
• Women-led collectives and self-help groups
• Child welfare, education, and youth engagement
• Ecological regeneration in drought-prone regions
• Community governance and rights-based participation

Their cooperative model currently supports tens of thousands of rural families across hundreds of villages, ensuring that economic value remains within communities rather than flowing outward.

Why AliveGreen Features Timbaktu Collective

AliveGreen features the Timbaktu Collective because their work reflects sustainability at its most foundational level — where livelihoods, ecosystems, and community strength are inseparable. Timbaktu demonstrates that long-term impact is built slowly, through trust, shared ownership, and locally anchored institutions rather than external dependence.

Their cooperative-led approach aligns deeply with AliveGreen’s belief that meaningful sustainability must empower people to shape their own futures while caring for the land and culture they belong to.

AliveGreen does not sell these products or services. We feature organisations whose work aligns with our values and encourages responsible, community-led choices.
