works with India’s construction and built-environment ecosystem to encourage more resource-efficient, healthier, and lower-impact spaces — from homes and offices to institutions and industrial facilities. Established in 2001 under the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), IGBC develops practical rating systems, frameworks, and guidance that help buildings reduce energy and water use, improve material efficiency, and create better indoor environments. Its work supports architects, developers, institutions, and policymakers in integrating sustainability into mainstream building design, construction, and operations.
The CII – Sohrabji Godrej Green Business Centre (GBC) in Hyderabad serves as a broader sustainability hub that supports green practices and responsible business across multiple sectors. Established in 2004, the Centre works beyond buildings to enable transformation in areas such as energy management, renewable energy, green product certification, waste management, green mobility, green cooling, and cleaner production processes. Through advisory, benchmarking, certification, capacity building, and demonstration, the Green Business Centre helps make sustainability practical and measurable for industry and institutions, supporting India’s long-term transition towards greener business practices.
IGBC’s core work is in frameworks, rating systems, capacity building and knowledge tools that help projects and organisations improve their performance across energy, water, materials, waste and occupant wellbeing. These include:
Green building rating and certification systems suited to different project types — from homes and offices to campuses and industrial buildings
Guidelines and benchmarks for resource efficiency throughout project design, construction and operation
Training programmes and webinars to build professional expertise
Forums and events for industry dialogue and shared learning
These tools act as practical roadmaps that support responsible decisions across a building’s life cycle.
IGBC and the wider Green Business Centre ecosystem help responsible construction and industry practice by:
Providing clear, measurable frameworks for reducing energy and water use
Encouraging better materials, waste and emissions practices
Offering green product certification that helps buyers choose less impactful materials
Supporting renewable energy adoption and energy management programmes
Facilitating industry transformation through advisory, certification, audit, training and demonstration
Advancing green standards, mobility and cooling solutions so sectors beyond buildings also transition toward sustainability
This holistic support helps sustainability move from abstract ideals to everyday decisions that matter.
AliveGreen features IGBC because the built environment is foundational to everyday sustainability. The spaces we inhabit — homes, workplaces, schools, hospitals — quietly shape energy use, water demand, comfort and environmental footprint. IGBC’s partnership with the Green Business Centre reflects a broader ecosystem working across buildings, energy, products and systems to make sustainability tangible, measurable and relevant. Their work aligns with AliveGreen’s belief that lasting change arises when responsible practices are built into everyday choices rather than treated as exceptions.

A New Way of Seeing the Spaces We Live In Imagine a building that feels alive — one that stays cool without wasting energy, breathes cleaner air, and doesn’t strain the planet just to stand tall. That’s what a green building is. It’s not only about walls and roofs… it’s about creating spaces that take care of the people inside and the world outside.
If you’re creating responsibly, we want to help the world find you!
